Biography

First Lieutenant Charles Henry Schmacher was born October 13, 1888 and was the husband of Ruth Schumacher. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State College in 1912.

He worked as a maintenance enginneer at David Bradley Manufacturing Plant in Bradley, Illinois and later as a chief engineer at a stone quarry near Kankakee, Illinois.

Charles went on to work as a master mechanic at Morrell Packing Plant at Ottumwa, Iowa. He worked as a civilian engineer at the air field at Fort Sill, Oklahoma before enlisting as a private there in October, 1917.

He held the ranks of Master Signal Electrician from November 1917 to January 1918; Second Lieutenant from January to July 1918; and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant inn July 1918. 

Charles died at the aviation repair depot in Montgomery, Alabama.
