Second Lieutenant Donald W. Copeland was born at Newcastle, Wyoming, on September 17, 1921 to Wayne H. Copeland and Mabel Norgard. His last home address was in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Donald left Iowa State College to enlist in the Air Corps at Omaha, Nebraska, on July 2, 1942. He was inducted January 6, 1943 at San Antonio, Texas and received his commission at Frederick, Oklahoma.

He died of off the coast of North Carolina on July 21, 1944.
