Biography

George Alexander Baker was born in South Weymouth, Massachusetts. He was eventually married to Ida Baker of Ames, Iowa.

He received a B.S. in Ag. E. in 1917 from Iowa State College and enlisted September 16, 1918. George was assigned to Company D of the First Replacement Engineers. He was transferred to Washington D.C. barracks.

Less than a month after his enlistment, he died there from pneumonia following influenza on October 12, 1918. His son, George Winsel Baker, was just six weeks old when his father died.
