Biography

Sergeant Ner Jason Bailey was born on April 2, 1919 to Orlando Bailey and Gertrude Rankin, and grew up in Maquoketa, Iowa.

He graduated from Iowa State in 1941 and married Helen Loy on November 1, 1941 in Aurora, Iowa before moving to Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Ner enlisted on June 30, 1944 at Camp Dodge, Iowa and was promoted to sergeant on May 21, 1945. He served with the 10th Army, 24th Corps, 7th Division, 184th Regiment, 1st Battalion, Company A, 1st Platoon, 2nd Squad.

Ner was killed in action in Okinawa on June 18, 1945. He was posthumously awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and a Purple Heart. His daughters, Jane and Anne, were three and one years old around the time of his death.
