First Lieutenant Omer Kingston Brokaw was born on June 6, 1920 to Omer L. Brokaw and Marguerite D. Jennings. He attended Iowa State College with his close friend and roommate Lieutenant Robert Frederick Burchard (who is also listed in the Gold Star Hall). Both were from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and left Iowa State to join the Army.

Omar married Charlotte Smith on July 22, 1943 in Memphis, Tennessee. Charlotte was from Elk Grove, California. They had a son named Michael Kingston Brokaw.

Lieutenant Brokaw died aboard a medium bomber which crashed during its landing at Dakar, French West Africa on November 13, 1944.
