Biography

Year at ISU: 1938 - Two Year

Captain Phillip Wagner Bailey completed his flight training at Iowa State College for the Army Air Corps. As of December 31, 1942, he was declared missing in action over Northwest Africa when he failed to return from an operational mission.

Later, it was discovered that he had been taken prisoner by the Italians. He was taken aboard an Italian submarine during the evacuation of Tripoli. A British destroyer, however, sank the submarine on January 14, 1943.

Phillip was married to Katherine Bruntlett.
