Biography
Robert Burchard was born on January 20, 1919 to Frederick A. Burchard and Stella M. Johnson. He had one sister, Evelyn Spencer, who graduated from Iowa State in 1938.
Staff Sergeant Robert Frederick Burchard attended Iowa State College with his close friend and roommate Lieutenant Omer Kingston Brokaw (who is also listed in the Gold Star Hall). Both were from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Burchard enlisted in June 1941, and earned his wings and officer commission at Kelly Field, Texas in August 1942. He went overseas that November.
Robert died in North Africa on March 19, 1943. He posthumously received the Purple Heart.
