Biography

Stanley was born in 1925 to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Steiner. He had two sisters and one brother, Vernon, who served as a chief petty officers in the Pacific. Robert graduated from Hopkinton High School in 1942. He went to Iowa State College briefly before enlisting thel air corps on November 30, 1942.

Fishermen found the body of Lieutenant Stanley G. Steiner still in the the cockpit of his plane after he lost his life in a flight over the Gulf of Mexico. His date of death is April 25. 1944. Services were held sometime in September 1944 at the Evangelical and Reformed Church in his hometown Monticello, Iowa. He was buried nearby in the Oakwood Cemetery.
