The Service Medallion was created in 1953 on the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Memorial Union. The recipient of the Service Medallion, which is the Memorial Union's highest level of recognition, must be a person who has given extensively of themselves on behalf of the Memorial Union. The recipient shall have attained special distinction through their efforts in the development and support of the Iowa State Memorial Union. This individual has given their invaluable time and service to the Iowa State Memorial Union, and by their deeds and actions reflect the importance of the Memorial Union and their pride in its mission.
